The L.C.A is a two year Leaving Certificate programme. The two years are divided into 4 sections:
Section 1
September – January 5th Year
Section 2
February – June 5th Year
Section 3
September – January 6th Year
Section 4
February – June 6th Year
At the end of each session students are awarded credits that they gather throughout the two years. These credits will go towards their final result in 6th year. Credits are awarded for the following:
- 90% attendance
- Completion of key assignments for each module/subject.
- Completion of projects which are called Tasks.
- Final Exams in 6th year.
Some of the subjects which students may do as part of the L.C.A include Art, Social Education, Vocational Preparation (preparation for work), Computers, Engineering, Hotel and Catering, as well as Maths, English, Irish, French, Construction Studies, Religious Education and Leisure & Recreation.
Over the two years students will go on Work Experience three times – twice in 5th Year and once in 6th Year.
Having completed the L.C.A students will receive a Pass, Merit or Distinction depending on the number of credits they have gathered.
