Our School Name And Crest

Coláiste Chathail Naofa Crest DungarvanColáiste Chathail Naofa is named after a local Irish saint, St. Cathaldus, who was born near Cappagh, Co Waterford and who established a monastic settlement in Ireland in the 7th century. Having spent many years in Ireland, he went on a pilgrimage to Italy. He remained in that country preaching the gospel until he died and was to become as famous there as St Patrick is in Ireland.

Our school crest represents the values and ideals of our school in symbols.

  1. Chisel – symbolizes the technical strengths of our school and its tradition of excellence in practical subjects.
  2. Compass – symbolizes the precision and accuracy which is necessary for many subjects. It also symbolizes the journey each student will take throughout their time spent in school.
  3. The Open Book – symbolizes a love of learning which, it is hoped, will continue through the lifetime of each student.
