Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (V.T.O.S.)
What is V.T.O.S.?
V.T.O.S. is a scheme designed to provide second chance education for the long-term unemployed and other social welfare recipients
- to develop their employability
- to prepare them for further education and training
- to train/retrain adults in work practices and skills
All full-time day courses at Coláiste Chathail Naofa qualify for V.T.O.S.
Eligibility
To qualify for V.T.O.S., applicants must be over 21 years of age and in receipt of the following payments for 6 months or more:
- Unemployment Benefit
- Unemployment Assistance
- One Parent Family payment
- Disability Allowance
- Disability Benefit
- Blind Person’s Pension
- Deserted Wife’s Allowance
- Deserted Wife’s Benefit
- Widow/Widower’s Contributory Pension
- Widow/Widower’s Non-Contributory Pension
- Prisoner’s Wife Allowance
- Signing for credits for at least 6 months
- People on disability Benefit should, in the first instance, contact their local Social Welfare Office about exemption to the continuation of their disability payment.
Entitlements
In addition to full Social Welfare entitlements, applicants are eligible for:
- Text books which are provided on a lending scheme
- Exam fees
- Meal and travel allowances which are calculated on a daily attendance basis
- Post-Leaving Certificate Maintenance Grants
- Applicants who are more than one year unemployed are paid an additional €31.80 per week
Application
Application forms for VTOS are available from Coláiste Chathail Naofa. Applicants will also have to complete a separate Post- Leaving Certificate course application form and attend an interview. Students will be admitted to a course subject to eligibility and availability of places.
